Limantour Lodge – Hostel Room
A Loft and Bunk Project
Project Overview
At Limantour lodge, we designed and built out the bunk lodge as part of a full renovation to create a welcoming space for travellers visiting Point Reyes National Seashore.
The previous room contained aging bunks that no longer reflected the warmth or character of the lodge with a big need to modernize the space. During the Renovation, the walls and ceilings were repainted, transforming the entire space. Our birch loft and bunk beds becoming the foundation of this new space.
The result is a space that feels simple, warm, and thoughtfully designed providing comfortable accommodation for full groups of adult travellers.
A Collaborative Design Process
Designing the room was a collaborative process that involved extensive back-and-forth between our team and the client. We wanted to create a room where a full group of adults could feel comfortable.
Each bunk was designed with solid back panels that help divide the room and create a sense of personal space between sleeping areas. These panels act as visual partitions, subtly organizing the room without making it feel closed off. There are areas with complete privacy as well as sections of the room with inward facing bunks.
We explored many layout variations to determine the best arrangement for the space. To make the process more interactive, we provided to-scale room drawings along with individual cut-out bunk pieces, allowing the client to physically move and rearrange the beds within the plan until everyone was happy with the layout.
This hands-on approach helped us refine the room carefully, ensuring the final configuration balanced sleeping capacity, comfort, and circulation within the space.
Because the project was located in California while our workshop operates in Canada, careful planning was essential. We provided a complete design package including detailed drawings and full-colour renderings that allowed the client to clearly visualize the finished space before production began.

Precision Planning
Since the furniture was designed and fabricated in Canada for installation at Limantour Lodge, accuracy was critical.
The bunks were carefully designed to integrate with the architecture of the room, extending up past the existing ceiling beams to create a snug, intentional fit within the space once installed.
To ensure everything aligned perfectly on site, we produced detailed full-colour renderings and precise construction drawings, giving the client a complete understanding of how the room would come together. This planning allowed the project to be executed smoothly, resulting in a bunk room that feels custom-tailored to the building itself.
